Maybe you guys should agree on what “I will encrypt some files” actually means, since the context determines whether or not a decryption will work. For instance, I can clearly use my public key to encrypt any file that I want, transport that file, and use my private key to decrypt said file on any other platform. In this case we have a platform independent encryption/decryption scenario. Such does not apply to all scenarios. Ref: My discussion of SED’s as an example.
