Re: WG bans

Ok, just to join in the discussion…

First off all, a little introduction, I’m a lawyer from Croatia and a huge fan of WoT. Ok, so lets share some info. First of all, spying on the things you do on your computer without your knowledge and consent is a violation of your privacy rights guaranteed by the  “Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms” and its Protocols. There is a thin line (well, more like a huge gap) on balancing the two rights, your right to privacy and their right to protection, fair play or how ever do they want to call it. Basically, they have more than enough government instruments at their disposal to stop you and make you do what they want (play fairly, hehe) legally.

The problem is that no one is suing them just yet.

That out of the way, second and a little more important thing:

A little birdie told me (lets call this birdie a WOT employee ;)) that they have some means to semi legal inspect what are you doing and what mods are you using. The main problem are owners of premium tanks. They paid for the product, and by banning that players they would be in serious problem for violating the ownership rights.

So, the intern instruction is, and I quote: “…bann only the users that you can pinpoint with 100% certainty and only bann them LIGHTLY. Under no circumstances are you to permanently bann users who have bought premium tanks. Reward premium tanks are excluded (stug IV, toldi III, even Dicker max, FV-4202 (P) and others that are obtained as a reward are excluded) so you can bann users that only have regular and reward tanks. But in any case, double check with your supervisor before banning anyone…”

I found out a couple of more things such as:

  • several moderators have been approached and offered various things, from premium time and tanks to real money for leaking their data files,
  • there is a WOT team (3 members currently) whose sole job description is to download mods, check them out in the battlefield, flag them as green or illegal and inspect the files of the illegal ones

I found out some more stuff, but I’ve written it down at home, will post it as soon as I’m finished working ;)

In the meantime, enjoy the game.

Oh and yeah, plazma keep up the good work, I love your blog;

Polarfox, helpics, apollo and other great moderators out there, keep up the good work too.
