i have not looked in a while but tank carousel may be able to do this by calling routines for the clocks?
or the widgetstemplate.xc ? within this file there are the clock settings that are set to update event every second , i am wondering if you added another section to update clock background ? i am sure its doable will have a gander at it using your backgrounds.
