I personally no longer care for AMD CPU’s — and AMD is one of my customers (!). The problem is AMD just does not have the company resources to out-engineer Intel or even out-price Intel. As mentioned by Storm, the CPU is king, then comes disk and memory IO. WOT is very CPU intensive and relies very heavily on disk IO. The new sound engine probably helped those who were already limping, but I did not see a change.
Having said all of this, it is tough to say “Yeah, this and that and a dash of those will 100% crank your fps to 150”. I’ve upgraded to the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming MB with the i7 OC CPU (plus 32gb memory) but retained my original Radeon 7700. I see very consistent fps of 55-65 at high graphic settings but not the crazy 100+fps that others report. At this point I am thinking the grpahics card upgrade might do the trick — but your original post made me realize that I still had my 7700 in an x8 slot, so I just moved it and will test later.
Personally I would recommend looking at an MB that provides the x16 slot for the graphics card — and I would recommend dumping AMD. Just my personal preference. If you want to get really crazy look for an MB that has the M.3 slot (the Asus does). M.3 is the spec that allows one to insert an SSD **directly** onto the PCIex16 bus and make that SSD OS block device addressable. What does this mean? It means that one can see even crazier disk IOPs that with a SATA or SAS attached SSD.
