World of Tanks is a CPU-limited, single-thread-heavy game.
It relies on one main core running at a stable, high clock speed.On modern Intel CPUs (especially 10th gen and newer), aggressive power-saving and frequency scaling features can cause:
-
rapid downclocking between frames
-
cores entering sleep (C-states) during gameplay
-
short latency spikes when a core wakes up
-
inconsistent frame times → visible FPS drops and stutter
Even with a very powerful GPU, the game stutters if the CPU cannot maintain a constant boost frequency.
Intel CPU
What needs to be disabled in BIOS (for WoT stability)
To force consistent CPU behavior, the following BIOS options should be disabled:
Power-saving / latency-causing features

Intel SpeedStep → Disabled

CPU C-States → Disabled
-
Enhanced C-States → Disabled
-
Package C-State Limit → Disabled / C0
-
Dual Tau Boost → Disabled
-
Runtime SMM Polling → Disabled
Features that should stay enabled

Intel Speed Shift Technology → Enabled

Intel Turbo Boost → Enabled

Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 → Enabled

Hyper-Threading → Optional (often better disabled for WoT)

AMD CPU
What about AMD CPUs?
The same issue exists on AMD Ryzen CPUs as well.
World of Tanks is a DX11, single-thread-heavy game and is extremely sensitive to CPU latency and frequency changes, regardless of whether the CPU is Intel or AMD.
On Ryzen systems, FPS drops are not caused by weak performance, but by aggressive power management and boost behavior.
Why FPS drops happen on AMD Ryzen
Ryzen CPUs constantly:

change frequency and voltage every few milliseconds

move load between cores (CPPC scheduling)

enter and exit C-states during gameplay
World of Tanks does not tolerate these transitions well, which results in:

FPS drops and stutter are eliminated

On AMD Ryzen CPUs, World of Tanks FPS drops are caused by aggressive power management. Disabling Global C-States, CPPC, Cool’n’Quiet, and setting PSU Idle Control to Typical Current Idle fully stabilizes performance. After these BIOS changes, the game runs smoothly with no stutter.
These settings are not ideal for laptops or power-saving scenarios, but for desktop gaming (WoT, DX11 engines) they provide a clear stability improvement.
