    Graphics Cards
    We all have at least two things in common ,we all like to drive tanks and we all own a graphics card.
    This article is intended as an aid to help people who dont quite understand the ins and outs of the graphic card world , i dont want to start right at the begining as there would be a lot of redundant reading to do , instead I will start back at 2011 as some of you may still have these Graphics cards(known  from now as GPU) sitting in your pc cases.
    The easiest way to break this down is to say you have either or ?


    NVIDIA OR ATI oh but wait my card is EVGA or my card is MSI or my card is ASUS etc. etc.
    NOPE! your card is either Nvidia or ATI!.


    God created two GPU makers NVIDIA and ATI  (AMD) and we all have at least one of these in our pc cases ,the GPU is the thing that lets us play games so its dam important to the make up of the PC so we should know what we have installed and could we upgrade if needed.
    Today is march 10th 2017 and the Nvidia 1080 Ti has been launched and released to the general public , all other  GPUs will be messured against this standard as the 1080Ti simply put has no peers but not everyone will want or need them as they are 4k gaming cards to see the full benifits you will need a PC and monitor that will not bottle neck the GPU ok if you already have these but a lot of money if you dont.
    NVIDIA
    Nvidia name thier cards  in this format(loosly)
    Model /series/series number
    we are starting around 2011 and at the time Nvidia was launching the GEFORCE 500 SERIES
    these came in models 510 ,GT520,GT530,GT545,GTX550Ti all the way through to GTX590 although these go up in design by numbers it does not mean the top end cards have the higher numbers , the sought after cards are always the Ti versions the GTX 560 Ti would probably be the best card in the 500 series.
    600 SERIES/700 SERIES/900 SERIES
    these all use the same branding GEFORCE either GT or GTX card number (extra)
    example GEGORCE GTX 760 Ti or GEFORCE GTX Titan Black (titans being high end cards)
    Now thats all well and good and quite easy to understand right ? its a simple naming method and easy to follow if these were the only NVIDIA cards on the market it would be.
    After Nvidia launch these cards other companies such as MSI ASUS EVGA etc. customise them and re sell them often over clocked with extra memory and cusom cooled these are the real sleeping giants of the GPU world , EVGA do SC ,SSC ,FTW and classified models meaning Super Clocked , super,super clocked , For The Win(maximum overclock) and classified =  (always highest overclocks available, always something custom about the product like exclusive design, custom PCB or cooler) and thats just EVGA.

    ahh no was doing this to show the differences in graphics cards , not all 1060’s are the same sort of thing ,there are many factors that i myself was unaware of before i took a deeper look , people that know this stuff assume everyone knows it to

    this is why on ebay you will see a big price difference for what looks like the same card , a simple google search for most models can give you a £150 spread and with the 1080ti release already there are a lot of top end cards being put up for sale

    i was doing this for a reference but after the wedding sunday i had a virus of some kind , my throat was swollen up and i wanted my missus to mother me :) i felt really bad m8 , it only lasted two days but knocked me off my feet , today is first day i am feeling ok

    I agree with soulza. GPU’s themselves are pretty straight forward. What the makers are putting out( different configs) the difference in price can be misleading. You may think you’re getting a deal, but are you?  Not everyone knows enough to sift through  the info and get what he/she needs and wants vs. cost and hype. Also, with advancement coming at the rate they are now(the GFORCE TITAN X) you have to ask yourself, do I wait, do need three cards of this or two cards of that. All that info and we haven’t even talked about room, cooling or power.

    i am glad you mentioned do i need? this is the key question that people neglect or ignore.

    take for example the only game you play is world of tanks  you also use your pc for day to day use and watch films etc. on , you would get away with a series 9 nvidia card and still pull over 100 fps with a decent cpu.

    be aware legacy cards from nvidia and ati are the standard release of that card , dont be fooled a legacy 1070ti still rocks your world but you do need to compare model versions if your going to buy a new gpu, the 3rd party cards are nearly or i would say totally better legacy card may come with 2 gig of memory and one fan , 3rd party version of same card may have 6gig of memory , double fan and copper pipes and heatsync , there is a lot to consider and we have not even looked at price range or more important bang for buck, a group i am a member of  quite a few members last month all pre ordered ryzen cpus the dawn of a new age ? lol , ryzen need their own motherboards and memory as well ,??? money , money,money. and still the i7 kicks the shit out of it after all the hype. the 1080ti released this month you couldnt pre order because so many people had beat you to it , but when you look at it they are for 4k gaming on a 4k monitor , you would also need a stonkin motherboard and cpu to see the benifits of having one of these cards , we are not talking hundreds here we are in the thousands,when ever new top of the range stuff gets released like the last few months its the ideal time to dip into the second hand market. i have seen 1060s and 480s for under £200 both until recently (pre christmas) were the muts nuts when it came to top end cards , shop around , ask questions , shop again ask some more questions , just dont go to pc world and say to yourself i think i will have that.

    So,so true, just because it cost a lot of money doesn’t mean that it is the best for you. By that I mean if it won’t work in your system then why buy it or if you will never get out of it what it is capable of producing again why buy it.

    And on another note, the best and most expensive GPU out there is only as good as your monitor. Research, research, research, as a question. We’ve all heard it said,” the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask”.

    up until last week i had the evga gtx 960 sc 4 gb ideal for mid range WOT player ,it could pull over 100 FPS with an I5 cpu and not even get warm, this is now in my grandsons pc upstairs as i went and bought the evga gtx 1060 sc 6 gb version

    both cards look very alike , small form factor single fan ,but the 1060 is around 80% faster and after much research it came down to which model , out of all tests i looked at the evga sc smallest , cheapest card comes out on top , no backplate or flashing rgb lights just does the job it should , so for me if asked i would suggest the evga sc cards there are some good rx480s around also that should become cheaper now the rx 5 series have been released point to note the five series is a duffer , people have found you are able to flash the bios of rx 4 series cards with the rx 5 series bios , it then out performs the newer cards major amd ball drop.

    also this week i read that nvidia has new set of cards coming at the end of the year ? i think this was announced to combat the rx 5 series release  ,so the release date may get put back to 2018 as there is no need to release them as i mentioned above 5 series are duffers , people are posting OC results for rx5 cards in HEAVEN BENCHMARK and my 1060 is out performing most of them.
